At the Sea Factory of the Basques Albaola we are building a replica of a 16th-century whaleship. This gallion is the only ship awarded with the patronage of the UNESCO in the world. Albaola is a shipyard-turned-into-a-museum, in which you can enjoy three spaces: an exhibition helping us understand the history of Basque whalers, the workshop where you can see live the traditional work of boatbuilders and the ongoing construction of the 28-meter-long San Juan whaleship. To make this experience even more unforgettable, visitors can reach Albaola by boat!
Opened in 1908, the Aquarium is located in the port of San Sebastián. Through its three floors, the visitor can observe more than 5,000 fishes, a great oceanarium with a tunnel of 360 º and a museum with the emblematic skeleton of the whale.
Designer and couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga, considered one of the most important creators of houte couture, was born in 1895 in the fishing village of Getaria, 29 km from San Sebastian. This is home to the museum that pays tribute to his life, career and style.
