In July and August, the UPV/EHU Summer Courses take centre stage in congress activity

In July and August, professional events activity in Donostia / San Sebastián and Gipuzkoa takes on a distinctly academic and informative character. During this period, congress activity is led in particular by the Summer Courses programme of the University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU), a well-established event that brings together professionals, experts, researchers and the general public each year around current topics.

The UPV/EHU summer programme turns the region into a meeting point for knowledge, debate and reflection through courses, seminars and congresses covering a wide range of fields. This helps strengthen the positioning of Donostia / San Sebastián as a destination linked to science, innovation, training and knowledge transfer.

In this context, the UPV/EHU Summer Courses are one of the main pillars of professional activity during the summer. The programme includes proposals aimed at both specialised and general audiences, creating spaces for exchange between the academic, institutional, scientific, social and professional spheres. In addition to the activity linked to the university programme, August will also feature a notable event outside Donostia / San Sebastián: the 2026 ISCHE Annual Retreat, the annual meeting of the International Society for Children’s Health and the Environment. The event will take place from 25 to 29 August 2026 in Arantzazu.

The retreat will bring together around 80 participants, with BioGipuzkoa acting as the local organiser. Over several days, ISCHE members will address the urgent challenges affecting children’s environmental health, sharing scientific knowledge, international experiences and lines of work aimed at protecting children’s health from environment-related risks.

The holding of this meeting reinforces Gipuzkoa’s capacity to host scientific professional gatherings in unique venues and settings linked to knowledge, research and international collaboration.
