San Sebastian to be the meeting point for education, material science and industrial simulation

Donostia / San Sebastián continues to bolster its position as a leading destination to hold congresses linked to knowledge, research and innovation. In May, the city will host different professional events where the research, academic and scientific community will gather together to consider strategic areas such as education, the new materials, applied chemistry and industrial simulation.

On 9 May, Kursaal Congress Centre and Auditorium will be the venue for the XIV International Meeting of Learning Communities, which nearly 300 participants will attend. Run by the Learning Communities Network and with the scientific endorsement of CREA, this event will consider educational models based on inclusion, participation and social transformation. The local organisers are the University of the Basque Country’s Faculty of Education and Sport.

From 20 to 23 May, the University of the Basque Country’s Gipuzkoa School of Engineering will host the International Conference on Energy Materials and Applications (ICEMA), which showcases advances in energy materials and their applications. This forum, in which around 80 experts will be taking part and organised locally by the EHU’s Chemistry Faculty, will be the opportunity to share the latest scientific development in a key area for the energy transition.

In the area of advanced materials, the 6th Polyanalysis Forum will be held at the EHU’s Carlos Santamaría Center on 21 May. Organised by Tosoh Bioscience International and run locally by Sardonlab (Polymat + EHU), this event will attract experts in polymer analysis and advanced characterisation techniques.

From 25 to 28 May, the Joxe Mari Korta Centre at the EHU will be the venue for the Polymeric Materials for Additive Manufacturing Workshop, which will attract 25 researchers working on the development of polymeric materials for additive manufacturing. This workshop, which is also being run by Sardonlab (Polymat + EHU), will foster the sharing of knowledge in an emerging field with great industrial prospects.

Finally, the Gipuzkoa School of Engineering will host the Industrial Simulation Conference (ISC), organised by EUROSIS – ETI (The European Multidisciplinary Society for Modelling and Simulation Technology), from 27 to 29 May. Nearly 150 professionals will attend the event to consider advances in modelling and simulation applied in industry; the local organisers are the EHU’s Gipuzkoa School of Engineering.

Attracting and hosting these events is thanks – to a great extent – to the joint work between local stakeholders and the Donostia San Sebastián Turismoa Convention Bureau; its work focuses on promoting the city as a MICE destination and to actively support the endeavours to attract and organise conferences and congresses linked to strategic sectors. This approach is in line with the city’s tourist model, which is committed to value-based tourism linked to knowledge, innovation and talent.

Holding these conferences and congresses further bolsters Donostia/San Sebastián’s role as a competitive and innovative MICE destination; thus, making it more attractive as a venue to host international and national professional events.
