A large number of congresses have been scheduled in our city in July. Most of these are international events, relating to the science/technology sector.

1-3 INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON QUANTUM ANTIMONIDES RESEARCH & UPSCALING (IQARUS) - Kursaal

This international workshop on quantum antimonides research and upscaling will be held at the Kursaal Conference Centre and Auditorium from 1 to 3 July.

Iqarus is an initiative stemming from the Quantimony programme, set up 4 years ago to boost industrial and academic research in the field of antimonide-based semi-conductor materials. It covers all aspects of scientific training, from growth of materials to industrial exploitation.

Some 100 science/technology practitioners are expected to attend this international workshop.

4-5 9th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEW BUSINESS MODELS (NBM) - Orona Ideo

The 9th International Conference on New Business Models (NBM) will be held at the Orona Ideo building on 4 and 5 July.

NBM2024 is a leading space in the debate on sustainable business models. It is a forum for encounters and reflection for those seeking to implement business models involving the technological-digital, energy-climate and social transitions, through a more holistic perspective of sustainability in business.

This is a hybrid conference, with both an online and an in situ format.

10-12 MANAGEMENT MEETING MAXAM - Hotel NH Aránzazu

The management meeting of Maxam, a global company specialising in energetic materials, will be held from 10 to 12 July at Hotel NH Aránzazu in Donostia/San Sebastián.

Some 75 people will be attending, and it should also be pointed out that this is a candidature won by the Donostia San Sebastián Turismoa Convention Bureau.

14 – 16 BIENNIAL HEMINGWAY SOCIETY CONFERENCE - Kursaal

The twentieth Biennial Hemingway Society Conference will be held at the Kursaal Conference Centre from 14 to 16 July, and around 200 people are expected to attend.

The event is held every two years at locations of significance for Ernest Hemingway, in the United States and also in other countries. It discusses academic and creative topics about Hemingway's life and work, usually based on a theme in relation to the location.

The 20th Biennial will be inviting conference-goers to take a look at the Basque Country's people, places, cuisine and culture.

15 – 19 QUANTUM DESIGNER PHYSICS (QDP2024) - Palacio Miramar

From 15 to 19 July Palacio Miramar will be the venue for the Quantum Designer Physics workshop, highlighting recent advances in material systems designed specifically for studying some of the most intriguing physical phenomena at the nanoscale.

In general these phenomena are related to spin, topology and coherence, which make it possible for the materials to display quantum functionalities.

Approximately 200 professional practitioners will be attending this scientific event.

15 – 19 ROYAL SPANISH PHYSICS SOCIETY (RSEF) BIENNIAL (RSEF) - Musikene, Gipuzkoa School of Engineering - Donostia (University of the Basque Country - UPV/EHU)

The RSEF's 39th Physics Biennial is being held in Donostia/San Sebastián from 15 to 19 July at the Higher School of Music (Musikene) and also at the Gipuzkoa School of Engineering.

The Biennial will comprise lectures by experts in physics, and dialogues on some of the main current problems in the sector, in addition to specialist symposia.

Activities will also be organised to publicise the field of physics and its contribution to the general public.

28 – 01 OPTICAL MEMS AND NANOPHOTONICS (OMN) - Aquarium

The International Optical MEMS and Nanophotonics Conference will be held at San Sebastián's Aquarium from 28 July to 1 August.

This is an annual conference that addresses research topics related to optics and photonics at the micro-scale and the nanoscale. It gives researchers the chance to report on their latest findings in the field of Optical MEMS and Nanophotonics, and to foster scientific exchange between researchers and engineers from industry and academia.
