Donostia / San Sebastián, a main player in the ICCA’s world congress ranking

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the most prestigious congress and convention organisation, has now made Donostia / San Sebastián number 129 in its world ranking, rubbing shoulders with much larger cities such as Orlando or Shanghai.
San Sebastián chalked up 16 valid international events in 2022 to equal its historical record in 2018, and is now seventh in the state’s international congress rankings, bettered only by some larger cities with greater infrastructure, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Málaga and Palma de Mallorca, and ahead of other cities with larger populations, such as Bilbao or Granada.
The Donostia San Sebastián Turismoa Convention Bureau aims to promote the MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions), in view of its contribution to the deseasonalisation and positioning of Donostia / San Sebastián on the international stage, and as a way of attracting talent and knowledge to the city.
2024 is also expected to be a good year for Donostia / San Sebastián in terms of attracting international congresses. Several events have now been confirmed in connection with science, medicine, energy and linguistics.
